A few days ago, a client said, “Don’t you usually post your favorite portraits each year?” Ooops, I’ve been busy, but better late than never. So, here it is, back by popular demand, the top picks from my shoots in 2012. Of course, this is like choosing between children, not really possible. That said, the photo above is an outtake from one of the very rare times I had the expert assistance of my son on a commercial shoot. The one below is an actual shot used for the New Vantage Partners website.
The following portraits, in no particular order, show a range of my privately commissioned work.
Black & White portraits are truly timeless. This was taken on a gorgeous summer day (remember those?) and the light makes their skin just glow.
One of my favorite things is to get those shots a parent just can’t get – the ones with them in it. Later on, the kids cherish these, too.
Sometimes it’s tough to get siblings of a certain age to bring their bodies close to one another for a portrait. It’s just so difficult to resist the temptation to poke each other (or worse), y’know? That’s not true for these two, whom I’ve known since they were babies, so it’s lots of fun to experiment with them.
One of the more frequent reasons I get hired in the age of camera phones is to capture a family reunion. It is a logistical challenge to make these sessions fun for everyone – it is rarely the kids’ idea of a good time – and to make some creative portraits at the same time. This type of sitting has become a personal favorite of mine.
Most people like to have their portraits made outdoors in warm weather. But sometimes, time just slips away and the portrait session edges into the colder months, particularly where holiday cards are concerned. These clients wanted to include their new home in the family portrait and we all loved the composition of this shot. A little chilly, yes, but happy campers anyway.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all my clients for choosing me to make your portraits!
