“Arrangement in Green and Black, Portrait of the Photographer’s Mother” is a series of 21 inventively reinterpreted photographic portraits by Aline Smithson, which she based on the painting “Arrangement in Grey and Black”(1871), commonly referred to as “Whistler’s Mother”, by James McNeill Whistler.
Marjorie Salvaterra’s take-off on Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting of “The Last Supper”(1495-1498), which resides on the walls of Santa Maria delle Grazie church in Milan, draws a comical parallel between Jesus’ fraught relationships and the sometimes high-stakes drama of modern women’s social interactions. Salvaterra’s work from the series “Her” can be seen through August 31, 2014 at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA.
