“May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young.”
– Bob Dylan
The magic of Harold Feinstein’s photography is that it so vibrantly expresses his zest for life. Right up to his passing a year ago at age 84, he approached each new day with undiminished wonder. In iconic photographs of Coney Island’s beach and boardwalk, Korean War soldiers at leisure, riffing jazz musicians, street photography ranging the world over and, late in life, eye-popping floral still-lifes, Feinstein’s indelible generosity of spirit bursts forth. If you’d like to experience some of that exuberance, treat yourself to a program celebrating Feinstein’s photography and philosophy at the Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport, MA on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 7:00pm.
Featured speakers will include Judith Thompson, Harold Feinstein’s wife and Director, Harold Feinstein Photography Trust, Sarah Kennel, Photography Curator, Peabody Essex Museum, Tony Decaneas, Owner, Decaneas Archive and me. This presentation parallels an exhibit of Feinstein’s work located at Sweethaven Gallery. The exhibit is co-sponsored by Greg Nikas, of Sweethaven Gallery in Newburyport, Asia Scudder of Blue Wave Art Gallery of Amesbury and Chestnut Innovation Center (Newburyport Clean Tech Center) and is supported in part by the Firehouse Community Grant Program.
